Water Safety Scotland X Best Bar None Scotland

Every year in Scotland, several accidental drowning fatalities include the influence of alcohol and/ or drugs. Water Safety Scotland’s key advice is to never use drugs or alcohol when in or around water.

What is the risk?

Alcohol (and drugs) impairs judgement and can lead to more risk taking behaviours, thus, the mixing of alcohol and bodies of water, can result in fatalities or life changing injuries.

How to minimise the risk?

It is best to avoid drinking alcohol when in, or around Scotland’s waterways

If you have enjoyed a couple of drinks one day or evening, make sure and plan a safe route home away from water

If you and your pals have enjoyed a few alcoholic drinks down at the beach or by the loch, make sure to keep an eye out for each other. Ensure you are aware of the risks around you when under the influence.
