We Have Signed Up to the Institute of Licensing Partnership Charter for the Night Time Economy

The Partnership Charter for the Night Time Economy is a voluntary framework developed by the Institute of Licensing (UK) to encourage partnership working among all stakeholders involved in the UK’s night-time economy — including local authorities, police, businesses, community groups and others.

The Charter sets out a series of shared principles that partners agree to uphold:

  • A thriving night time economy – support economic growth, strategy, training and shared promotion.

  • An inclusive night time economy – ensure accessibility for all people and simplify licensing processes.

  • A safe night time economy – work together to protect workers, visitors and residents.

  • A sustainable night time economy – commit to environmental measures like recycling and sustainable transport.

  • Support for voluntary programmes – promote and support initiatives like Best Bar None and other local schemes.

  • Working with communities – encourage dialogue between local residents, businesses and regulators.

  • Collaborative approach – foster partnerships with transparency and mutual respect.

  • Measuring and celebrating success – track progress and share best practice.

    The Charter is open to:

  • Local authorities

  • Police and emergency services

  • BIDs and town centre partnerships

  • Hospitality and night-time economy businesses

  • Trade bodies and representative organisations

  • Community and voluntary sector organisations

  • It is designed to be inclusive and cross-sector.
