BEST BAR NONE CELEBRATING A SAFE NIGHT OUT IN LANARKSHIRE

Best Bar None Lanarkshire, which recently hosted its 2019/20 Awards ceremony at Motherwell Concert Hall, has expanded from 27 to 41 venues over the last year, a huge increase of 34%.

New venues from all across the county, including in Coatbridge and Airdrie, Cumbernauld, East Kilbride and Hamilton, have joined the scheme aiming to improve safety and raise standards. Out of the 41 venues, 39 were awarded gold accreditation meaning they have demonstrated excellent safety standards, 2 were awarded silver, and 1 bronze.

At the Awards ceremony held on 07 January 2020, venues from across Lanarkshire were rewarded for going ‘over and above’ in terms of raising standards and ensuring everyone can enjoy a safe night out. In Coatbridge and Airdrie, The West End Bar was named Best Bar None, as well as picking up Best Pub and a Diamond Award for its support and dedication to improving safety standards over a number of years. The Carrick Stone was chosen as Best Bar None and Best Bar in Cumbernauld, while The Exchange was named Best Bar None and Heart of the Community in East Kilbride. In Hamilton, it was the Jnkyard which took the top Best Bar None Award, as well as picking up Best Bar.

Peter Fergie, Best Bar None Coordinator for Lanarkshire, commented: “I would like to congratulate all the winners, not just those who have won a main award, but all the 42 venues who have taken part in the scheme throughout Lanarkshire demonstrating a real commitment to raising safety standards and ensuring everyone can enjoy a safe night out.

“The increase in numbers this year has been excellent, we have new venues coming on board throughout the county. Pub Watch and word of mouth has played a big part in this; increasingly licensed premises are beginning to realise that Best Bar None is there to help them, we basically assist venues to ensure they have all the correct safety policies and procedures in place. The Best Bar None scheme is all about meeting standards, ensuring staff and patrons are looked after; when you sit down with premises and explain this to them, they usually want to be part of it.”

Fergie adds: “Of course, I have to give a special mention to the main awards winners, who have all gone ‘over and above’ in terms of raising standards and enhancing safety in their local community.”
